Teach Me Something ("we", "our", or "the Service") collects and processes personal information through its website and services. We are committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal data in accordance with applicable regulations including GDPR.

Information we collect

• Email address, username
• Password (stored as a one-way bcrypt hash, never in plain text)
• Learner profile information (background knowledge, learning goals, interests)
• Subjects, tutorials, and quiz session data
• API tokens (stored as SHA-256 hashes)
• Payment and billing information (processed by our payment provider; we store only transaction records)

Information collected automatically

• IP address and browser type
• Pages visited and timestamps
• Device and operating system information
• Geographic location data (derived from IP address)

Cookies

We use a single httponly session cookie to keep you logged in. It contains no personal data. We do not use third-party cookies, advertising pixels, or tracking scripts.

How we use your information

We use collected information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Personalize tutorials and learning recommendations based on your profile
• Implement spaced repetition scheduling for quizzes
• Send service-related communications (account verification, security alerts)
• Detect technical issues and prevent fraud
• Process payments and billing
• Comply with legal obligations

MCP integration

When you connect an AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) via MCP, the assistant accesses your data through authenticated API calls — the same data you see in the web interface. The AI assistant's provider may process your data according to their own privacy policy. We do not store or log the AI's requests beyond standard server logs.

Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your data. Information may be shared with:

• Other users — only tutorials you explicitly choose to publish, visible at their public URL. You control this per-tutorial and can unpublish anytime.
• Service providers — third-party vendors necessary to operate the Service (see below), bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Legal authorities — when required by law, subpoena, or court order.

Third-party service providers

• Infrastructure: Render (hosting, managed PostgreSQL database)
• Development: GitHub

Data is stored in Render's US infrastructure. Render's security practices are documented at render.com/trust.

Data retention and deletion

Your personal data is retained for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide you with the Service. Deleted content may persist in server backups for up to 30 days before complete removal.

To delete your account and all associated data, email piyushagarwal5050@gmail.com. We will confirm once deletion is complete.

International data transfers

The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from your jurisdiction.

Your privacy rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Object to or restrict processing of your data
• Receive your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent at any time

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email.
